Now, this may look like a rather simple pipe and valve installation, right? What you see here is a snip-it of a new installation that has to take place between existing entry and exit flanges. The primary requirement was to ensure accurate center to center and flange to flange measurement to successfully recreate the new layout. This can be a rather difficult task given that the existing underground systems existing coatings had perished and the pipes had degraded to some extent. The old system also contained various outdated equipment in various locations. The issue we faced here was finding relevant measuring areas as well as being able to measure flanges which where not accurately angle to the pipe centers. Another challenge, was the lack of a suitable datum in the XYZ planes. To combat this, we made use of a sophisticated laser system which projected these datums accurately.
